October Scholastic Orders

Forms are available in Room 16 to pick up either before or after school (0840-0850 or 1516-1530) Wednesday and Thursday this week.

Forms need to be returned on 30 Sept by the end of the day. Grade 8 students may leave the forms in the office in the Room 16 mailbox slot. Please email the teacher over the weekend if you are planning to do so.

FRENCH GRADES 7 & 8 - Due Thurs. Sept. 26

The following items are due this Thursday, September 26th:

1. DVD order form and payment (See previous blog entry for another copy of the form). Even if you are not ordering a DVD, you must return a signed copy of the form.

CHAPTER 1 MATH TEST - FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 27th - DAY 4

We will go over the Unit Review on Monday in class.

Extra review package has been handed out - it is up to each student to complete the package and ask any questions to Ms. Brownlee prior to the test on Friday.

Topics covered on the test:

-Section 1.1 - justifying the choice of strategy when solving problems
-Section 1.2 - prime factorization with and without exponents
                  - standard and expanded form
                  - using factor trees to expand and show your work
-Section 1.3 - representing whole numbers in expanded form and scientific notation
-Section 1.4 - understand the order of operations with brackets and exponents (solving equations)
-Section 1.5 - solve equations by using a model by inverse operation (eg. seesaw)

FRENCH 7 and 8 - Alphabet quiz Thurs. Sept. 19

Students will have a quiz on the French alphabet on Thurs., Sept. 19th. I have sent home a study sheet in the agenda with approximate pronunciations of all the letters. There are also two online resources listed on the study sheet so students can listen to and practice the alphabet:

On the quiz, I will dictate words letter by letter and students will write the letters they hear.

French 7 and 8

Je me présente good copy due Thursday, Sept. 12. Goals of assignment: introduce yourself, your likes/dislikes, your interests and show Madame your level of French. Use as much French as possible but don't get frustrated or spend time searching in dictionaries - just draw a picture or say it in Englsh.

Visual Arts 7 and 8

All students to have an art folder (simple pocket folder for handouts and sketches) and a pencil for each class. If possible, a ruler, pencil crayons and a fine liner black pen are helpful.
Altered Book project: students will be reconstructing a sculptural book using a discarded book as a starting point. Donations of old books, encyclopaedia etc.  are welcome. See student planning sheet for more details.
